Room Parents

HSC Room Parent Program

At Blossom Hill, a strong partnership between families and teachers is the foundation of our vibrant school community. Our Room Parent Program serves as the vital bridge that connects individual classrooms with our teachers, families, and the Blossom Hill Home & School Club (HSC). Acting as organizers, communicators, and coordinators, Room Parents streamline classroom logistics so our teachers can focus entirely on what they do best: teaching our students!

Key Responsibilities

Typically, each classroom selects two to three parent volunteers at the beginning of the school year to share Room Parent responsibilities:
  1. Classroom Specific Messaging: While school-wide updates are pushed out through the weekly Beehive Newsletter and general HSC ParentSquare alerts, classroom-specific messaging is an absolute lifesaver. Room Parents send targeted updates to keep their classroom’s parents and caregivers seamlessly informed about localized schedules, important reminders, and class celebrations.
  2. Special Events & Celebrations: Room Parents lead the charge on creating magical classroom memories. In close coordination with your classroom teacher, Room Parents will:
    • Collaborate on the Calendar: Determine exactly which holidays, milestone days, or special events will be celebrated throughout the year.
    • Align with Teacher Preferences: Discuss and establish clear guidelines for activities, crafts, decorations, and food choices according to your specific teacher’s preferences and classroom safety rules.
    • Oversee Event Logistics: Manage the event from start to finish! This includes recruiting parent volunteers to oversee classroom setup, running activities, and handling cleanup during class parties.
  3. HSC Liaison: Help build excitement and attendance for HSC events, while rallying parents to step into volunteer and leadership roles to make those events a success.

100% HSC Funded: The Room Parent Class Fund

To ensure equity across every single classroom on campus, reduce financial complexity, and completely eliminate the burden of out-of-pocket parent collections, the HSC now allocates funding directly to each classroom. The HSC provides approximately $900 per classroom, per year as a dedicated Room Parent Class Fund. These funds are systematically overseen by a designated Room Parent Funds Manager throughout the school year. This robust fund completely covers:
  • Classroom Parties & Activities: Celebrations are collaboratively and mutually agreed upon by the grade-level teachers to keep the student experience consistent.
  • Special Grade-Level Projects: Funds support unique, grade-specific milestone events. Examples include a 100 day celebrations, Valentine’s Day decorations, St. Patrick’s Day fun, or a small Spring Fling. If a specific project isn’t run, these funds can dynamically be reallocated to other classroom needs.
  • Staff Appreciation: Room parents utilize a portion of this allocation for thoughtful birthday, holiday, and end-of-year tokens of appreciation for our teachers.
A Note on Teacher Appreciation Week: Because the HSC Staff Appreciation team already provides our wonderful staff with multiple school-wide tokens of gratitude during this specific week, room parents are asked to keep classroom additions small and sentimental (for example: a hand-delivered flower from each child is welcome, but buying extra gift cards is entirely unnecessary!).

Volunteer: Become an Room Parent

If you want to be directly involved in creating a memorable year for your child’s class, this is the perfect role for you! Being a Room Parent is an incredibly rewarding way to stay deeply connected to your child’s daily school experience, get to know their classmates, and build a lasting relationship with their teacher. At the very beginning of the school year (often during Back to School Night), teachers will open up sign-ups for Room Parents. If multiple parents express interest, the roles may be shared or co-assigned so everyone can collaborate and balance the time commitment. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Do I need to collect cash from classroom parents for parties? No! Thanks to the HSC Room Parent Class Fund, you will never have to ask classroom families for financial contributions for standard class parties, projects, or teacher gifts.
  • How do I access the classroom funds? Your classroom’s assigned Treasurer will provide clear guidelines at the start of the year detailing how to submit receipts and request direct budget distributions from your class’s ~$900 allotment.
