
Funded Programs
The Blossom Hill Home & School Club provides vital funding to educational programs at Blossom Hill School that enrich the development of all of our students. Here is a comprehensive list of the programs and positions that we currently support:
Accelerated Reader: This web-based reading assessment program is offered to all children in grades 1-5.
Art Docents of Los Gatos: Art Docents provide programs and activities in art history, art criticism, aesthetics and art techniques. Classroom visits by Art Docent volunteers enhance our students' creative minds.
Assemblies: The H&SC funds all assemblies during the school year. A committee comprised of teachers determines the annual assembly schedule.
Author Visits: The H&SC funds an annual visit from a published author to speak to the children regarding literature and writing.
Book Fairs: The H&SC funds two book fairs annually, one sponsored by local book shop Hicklebee's and one by Scholastic. The book fairs raise money to fund new books and resources for our school library.
Red Ribbon Week: The H&SC supports Red Ribbon Week which encourages students to make healthy choices in their lives.
Classroom Supplies: The H&SC manages a Student Supply Fund for all students, teachers and support staff. This money allows teachers to bring teaching tools and materials into the classroom that wouldn't otherwise be available due to state budget cuts. Additionally, necessary materials for the library and the school workroom are purchased annually.
Community Building and Family Fun Events: The H&SC sponsors and manages an annual Movie Night and the Swarm. The H&SC also oversees Staff Appreciation weeks in the fall and spring, our website, the Wednesday Beehive Newsletter, and the school yearbook.
Community Outreach: The H&SC is involved with several community outreach program.
Consumables: The H&SC helps to fund consumable workbooks (workbooks that are not reusable after a student has used them) utilized in classrooms each year.
Family Math Night: The H&SC funds a fun filled evening of math games in conjunction with Mathnasium. Students rotate through multiple math game stations at their grade level.
Field Trips: The H&SC helps fund field trips during the year. Field trips are selected by each grade level to compliment their curriculum. Programs are also brought to the classroom when necessary.
Green Team: This H&SC team encourages composting and recycling, and organizes an annual Earth Day celebration.
Mileage Club: Mileage Club is a spring program that encourages students to walk and run during the noontime hour. Children are rewarded for reaching mileage goals. At the end of the Mileage Club season, awards are given based upon total miles walked.
Pottery Program: Students in all grade levels use their creative skills to construct and glaze grade level specific pottery projects. Projects vary from year to year, but have included pinch pots, picture frames, jack-o-lanterns, and mugs.
Project Cornerstone: Volunteers read stories and lead discussions in the school classroom that are designed to focus on issues like student-to-student respect, how to avoid bucket dippers, and what to do if a bucket dipper is victimizing others. Students learn about values such as honesty, caring, responsibility and friendship. Project Cornerstone helps students develop a common language of kindness, caring and compassion.
Safe Routes 2 School: The H&SC funds Blossom Hill's participation in the local Safe Routes 2 School program. This program encourages students to walk, bike, or scooter to school to reduce car traffic and increase people power. Students are scanned into our Honeybee Bar Code program and rewarded for their efforts. The Third Grade Bike Rodeo is sponsored by Safe Routes 2 School.
School Modernization: The H&SC occasionally funds things such as outdoor ball bins, foliage and benches when needed.
Science Fair: The H&SC funds a school wide non-competitive Science Fair. Students choose science topics to explore using the Scientific Method. Students present their projects at Family Night.
Sports Program: The H&SC funds all equipment and games offered at noon-time recess.
The Swarm: Students in grades K-5 participate in mixed grade teams in a variety of fun field activities. Each team is led by 5th grade students who show their leadership skills to guide their teams through each station.
